JR Hexatone Pro is available now!
Published: August 4, 2009

Our latest "BIG" music app "JR Hexatone Pro" is finally available on the AppStore!

We developed it in collaboration with the world-renowned keyboardist and musician Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater. This is the first iPhone application released under his name.

Jordan's introduction video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5usPtRhbyBA

It is quite diffucult to describe what Hexatone is in several words simply because there’re no direct alternatives.

JR Hexatone Pro is an advanced drum machine - tool for generating all kinds of rhythms, loops, melodic sequences, drum patterns - anything that consists of samples and has some rhythmic or chaotic structure.

Factory presets demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZ8kDVXbPXQ

JR Hexatone Pro is something totally new. There’s nothing like it, it creates sonic textures based on absolutely unique principles. It can be called a 6-channel 6-directional step sequencer with variable step length and artificial intelligence of each channel. Given that you can easily load your custom samples, you can create anything, any kind of loops, for all music styles.

Bring your iPhone to the next Good Night, States show!
Published: July 15, 2009

This is really quite a new event in the history of music. This event has received massive press coverage on Engadget and Synthtopia.

Famous musicians "Good Night, States" supplied Noise.io a soundbank for their songs, and at their next show you can plug your iPhone or iPod into the house sound system and jam along with the group.

The first show you can officially try out this new technology will be this Friday, July 17th at Mr. Small’s (Pittsburgh), along with local rockers The Takeover UK, Vesta and Composure.

Instructions for participating are located here

Unfortunately we Amidio are situated approximately 5,000 kilometers away from Pittsburgh but maybe some of you Noise.io fans will attend it?

Noise.io Price Rise + Update plans
Published: July 15, 2009

On the 25th of July, 2009 Noise.io officially turns one year (counting from the first weird sound extracted by the pre-alpha version)

Noise.io is still one of the most advanced apps in the AppStore, used everywhere in the world, by renowned musicians and synth enthusiasts.

Noise.io currenly has about 35,000 users (plus the pirated copies).

Given that Noise.io is the most superior synth app, and due to certain conditions, we have to rise the price to $14,99.

So, you can still get Noise.io for $8,99 before the 25th of July.

Noise.io update plans for July-August:

+ midi over wifi (finally!)
+ new filters
+ new waves
+ reworked and built-in help
+ interface updates

FEATURES OVERVIEW

***This is not a final feature list. We can still change it a bit (adding something) and of course we will add more pictures soon!***

Before proceeding to the Feature List - we would like to underline that Noise.io is a completely new kind of a musical instrument.

Noise.io does not reflect or copy any existing synth structure, design or principles.

We've designed Noise.io to become the true 21st century synth. So you won't find any "VCO" or "VCF"-like abbreviations.
There are no knobs! ("omg! synth with no knobs?! how can that be?!" )

We've tried to simplify everything down, in order to let the musicians create, instead of reading manuals. And - thanks to the iPhone excellent features - we've designed several new interface elements, which are through all the Noise.io's Editor. You can read about them in the Highlights section.

  • Superb quality of sound, comparable with hardware synths!
  • Latency close to ZERO!

...there are so many features that it is quite possible that we've forgot something

...any questions? Ask them in our forum!

What kinds of sounds is it possible to create with Noise.io?

To tell the truth, at the moment we ourselves at Amidio have not yet explored all the sonic possibilities of Noise.io. However the range of sounds is broadened by Noise.io's monophonic nature. So creating multi-layered "mega chords" will be possible only if you record separate pitches with the same envelopes and then layer them up in a DAW (digital audio workstation).

But, Noise.io is suitable for almost all other things:

  • basses (fat, squeaky, punchy, deep, low, hollow, fretless, kicking)
  • 303-like basslines (with even more mood due to multi-glide functions)
  • leads (melodic, vibrating, mesmerizing)
  • keys (epiano-alikes, trance pikes, vibes)
  • bells (harmonic and inharmonic bells, chimes and mallets)
  • sound effects (swooshes, mystical noises, distorted realities)
  • percussive sounds (atonal percussion, drum sounds, snares, hihats, even bass drums)
  • ...and many, many more!

Please remember that after creating a sound, you can fire up Pitch Sequencer and create a melody using that instrument!

 Suggested Usage

 Sound Quality

Simply connect the sound output of your iPhone/iPod touch to the mic/line input of your mixer, recorder or sound card - and there you are, now you can enrich your tracks or mixes with superb melodies, sequences or sound effects that blow away people's minds, making your perfomance unique and unforgettable.

All you need is Noise.io, line phone jack cable and your fingers. The quality of sound you will get depends on the quality of the cable and your A/D converter but even with not too expensive equipment, it is really *very* good, comparable to the quality of hardware synths.

Noise.io is fully ready for live perfomances. In fact, it has been initially designed for live perfomances.

We have conducted several blind tests between Noise.io and some well-known hardware synths (of course we can not tell which synths in particular).

We offered people (musicians and non-musicians) to choose which sound they liked best (they did not know the source of the sound they listened to).

  • In most cases, the people couldn't distinguish between Noise.io and hardware synths.
  • Most people have agreed that Noise.io has a "warm and pleasant sound, without any evident digital harshness".

  • After revealing, most people were amazed that "such a small device can sound like a real synth".
